The POFC-RLC is a rotary joint device used to build a circuit for sending signal data in the rotor side of a rotating device to its stator side. (It can also be used to build a circuit for sending signals from the stator side to the rotor side.)
The device converts input (electric) signals into optical signals by using a light-emitting element and transmits these optical signals through a rotational interface. The optical fiber coupler (POFC) mounted in the stator side then catches the optical signals transmitted and converts them back to electric signals through photoelectric conversion made by using a light-receiving element.
The POFC-RLC is a non-contacting circuit capable of transmitting signals in the above way.
The POFC-RLC can be called an electronic component used to build an optical communication system and create a circuit in a platform.
As described, the basic technology applied for this circuit device is one for building an optical communication system by using photoelectric converters (for E/O and O/E conversion).
Unlike contacting circuit components, the POFC-RLC, a non-contacting circuit component, ensures high-speed signal transmission without attrition, noise, signal degradation, or any other problems caused by sliding. It can therefore be applied for devices that need high-speed image transmission, such as stabilizers for aerial cameras to be mounted on unmanned aircraft and video-monitoring devices including wide-area security cameras and tracking security cameras. As reported in recent news stories, security cameras are expected to be capable of sending high-quality (Hi-Vision) images to large-scale transmission networks.
Accordingly, use of the POFC-RLC as a circuit device for connecting a security camera with a large-scale transmission network enables building of a security camera system compatible with high-quality images.
